Hey, I’m Alex and today together with 35 other bachelor and master students from RWTH we visited the Siemens Energy site in Mülheim.
It all started with our early travel by train and thanks to the good organization we arrived on time.
The next step was to split into 3 groups, put on the prepared helmets (safety first!) and start our tour.
It was definitely impressive being so close to a generator, where just the stator, suspended in mid air, weighs more than 20 tons…
Following the assembly line we discovered how different steam turbines come to life and achieve such high efficiency levels.
We even had the opportunity to enter the control room, where the performance of each turbine was tested.
But that was not all… as each turbine has such a high moment of inertia it is extremely important to balance the rotating mass and we were able to observe and learn more about this process.
The tour through the factory finished in the best way possible – with a walk through the history tunnel, showcasing the long traditions of Siemens Energy.
Afterwards all 3 groups merged for lunch in the canteen and prepared for the next part of our visit – a technical presentation and interactive discovery of the development opportunities at Siemens Energy.
It was truly an amazing visit!
